About the Artist
Artist Virginia Perle maintains her own gallery at 96 East Water Street in Toms River, NJ. Open since 2002, it affords her the space and time to pursue the interests that have been with her since childhood. Painting mainly in watercolor, she is inspired by her surroundings here at the Jersey Shore and in her travels through the United States and abroad. Educated in Fine Arts at Montclair State College with further studies at Ocean County College, and with many fine watercolorists, she continues working towards a collection that communicates with people while fulfilling her very own personal viewpoint.
Virginia has exhibited her work widely in the Northeast, especially in New York and Pennsylvania, and her paintings are in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and in more than 30 foreign countries. She exhibited her work in the Rotunda of the House of Representatives Office Building in Washington, DC and at the State House in Trenton, NJ. She is listed in Who's Who in American Art. Her work is represented at several shore galleries, among them the Main St.Gallery in Manasquan, Thistledown Gallery in Spring Lake, Squan Gallery in Manasquan, Wildflowers Gallery in Barnegat Light as well as her own gallery in Toms River.
Her paintings cover a wide range of subjects including landscapes, seascapes, city scenes, still life and portraits. The Jersey Shore and it's surrounding area has always been and remains a big inspiration for her work as well as sites from her many travels throughout the United States and abroad. A series of paintings of classic Barnegat Bay cat-boats: A-Cats, B-Cats and Sneakboxes have been very well received not only by local sailors and boat lovers, but also by attendees at her shows. Some of her paintings have been used as magazine and book illustrations and covers, and as labels on wine bottles. Her accurate depiction of boats and nautical scenes comes from long experience and observation.
Virginia Perle currently lives on the water in Toms River. She sails and races her Pearson Ensign sailboat "49er", recently participating in the National Championship Regatta.
